GCMA SW Region match vs GCMA Wessex Region – Tuesday 17th June at Cumberwell Park GC

For the match report for our first match of the season, I would like to say that it was a continuation of our last game at the end of 2024, but that would be a mistake, although we did lose this match by 4 points to 2 the result doesn’t do justice to our team performance.

The venue of Cumberwell Park GC Reg & Orange courses proved difficult for some of our pairings. We had 2 matches that had a very clear margin of victory , one for our side , one for the opposition, but the other 4 matches were close contests with unfortunately 3 matches going the way of the opposition. I felt the Red course was more forgiving than the orange as once offline on the orange it was a lost ball with thick rough just off the fairway.

I would like to thank Cumberwell Park for hosting the fixture, having last played the course when it was only 27 holes, it has expanded into a wonderful golfing experience.

I would like to thank all of my team for making the effort to play and especially Ray Griffiths for travelling from deepest Cornwall to play in Wiltshire, not an easy journey. I would like to thank Karen Rix for the organisation and for playing for the opposition and managing to lose her match – well done !

Would also like to point out that we have only 4 matches this year , so would ask all serving managers to rep and play in at least one of the matches as its a great opportunity to network with other regional managers.
